In the wake of the recent Cinqo De Mayo controversies, I have to question whether I’m living in America, or some bizarro parallel universe version thereof. I’m not going to go on about how this isn’t really even a holiday in Mexico, or the ridiculous notion that it should be celebrated in the U.S.. However, with the ‘flag shirt’ high schoolers and other incidents surrounding this so-called, media and corporate contrived tripe of a holiday worthy of nationwide celebration, it brings to light an issue of much larger significance. Namely, the notion that hyphenated citizenry has any place in our beloved Republic.
America has been built, in large part, by immigrants. Legal immigrants, people who abandoned all foreign allegiance for the privilege to call themselves Americans- not Irish-Americans, German-Americans, or African-Americans, just Americans. They left their native cultures and customs so they could be individuals, and live freely to the fullest extent of their abilities. To be an American is not to be any part of a group other than a group of free people exercising their God given rights of self-determination, as stated in the Declaration of Independence.
Although I don’t subscribe to the wearing of the American Flag as clothing, other than as a part of a military or civil servant uniform, the notion that the American Flag in and of itself is somehow an abhorrent display to some percentage of the population on any day of the year leads me to one question. Who the hell are these people and what are they doing here?
My take is that anyone who identifies themselves as a fill-in-the-blank-American, is not an American at all. You cannot be an American if you place your allegiance first with another country. The media perpetuates this nonsense constantly. By calling Chairman Obeyme the first African-American President(oh, I’m sorry was that Bill Clinton?), they debase him from America. America cannot have an African-American President or any other hyphenated variety, we either have an African President, which is illegal according to the Constitution, or an American President. Not both.
This may seem like a semantic word play, but take a look at Europe right now. The European Union, an unrealistic product of wishful thinking on the part of the ruling elite, is coming apart at the seems. But why? It made so much sense. Join the countries of Europe together in an economic and eventual political alliance to counter balance the United States. So why isn’t it working?
Let’s see, no common language, a history of warring on one another for centuries, and distinctly different values from country to country. What could go wrong? Contrast this with America’s formation, thirteen colonies (basically separate nation states as exist in Europe), a common language, a common disdain for the aristocracies of Europe, and a common belief in God and the God given rights of man.
What about slavery( a system established by Europeans in the colonies for their economic gain) you say? America’s penance for slavery was paid in full, in the blood of it’s sons and daughters during The Civil War. The Founders knew this issue would have to be resolved and it was, at great cost.
So, there are no hyphenated Americans, you are either an American or you may classify yourself as other than American – and if you opt for the latter, leave after your visit.
I truly believe that their are Americans all over the world that have never stepped foot into this country but yearn for the individual freedom and economic and religious liberty that we are SUPPOSED to value. I welcome these people into our country – legally, come here, prosper, and be my neighbor.
Americanism is a belief and state of mind more so than a birth right- and within it there is no room for hyphens.

Today marks the one year anniversary of the awakening of the people. Michelle Malkin today posts the following essay from Keli Carender one of the Seattle protest organizers and as Malkin calls her “a foremother of the tea party movement.” I am re-printing it here in it’s entirety. It is worthy of attention as it speaks directly to the heart of the tea party movement; the frustrations of the people, the fears that many feel when looking to the future. Read it.

The consent of the governed and the roots of the Tea Party movement
by Keli Carender

Last President’s Day, about two hundred of us gathered at Westlake Park in the middle of deep blue Seattle to protest the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, a.k.a. Porkulus, because Washington D.C. wasn’t listening. We had tried to tell President Bush back in 2008 that we didn’t want the Toxic Asset Relief Program (TARP), and he and Congress did not listen. Then, one of the earliest initiatives by our new President, Barack Obama, who as a Senator supported TARP and the bailouts of the banks, was to declare the worse economic crises since the Great Depression and hurry Congress into passing a giant stimulus package.

Remember the nearly 1,100 page version of Porkulus that was passed by both the House and the Senate on Friday, February 13, 2009? The final legislative language was not made publicly available by Congressional leadership until late Thursday night, giving Congressmen, Senators and the public less than 16 hours to read the more than 1,000 pages. Seventy-two pages of amendments had been added the night before the vote. Many Congressmen and Senators publicly admitted they did not have time to read it before voting on it. It was this last, final act of contempt and disrespect for the American people that was the tipping point. After my representative and my two senators, all left-wing ideologues, ignored me, refused to empty their voicemail boxes, sent back form letters, and stopped taking phone calls, I understood what taxation without representation felt like.

Representation requires that members of Congress, at minimum, read the bills. Once they stopped doing this, none of us were represented any longer, and the Tea Party Movement was born. Representative John Conyers, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee famously implied that reading the bills on which members will vote is not necessary. Regarding the healthcare bill Conyers said “I love these members, they get up and say, ‘Read the bill.’ What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?”

The Tea Party story and imagery comes from our common bond with our forefathers, taking direct action against a government that refused to represent the people, but still taxed them. What you may not know is that we share some other parts of the story with the original Tea Partiers.

The story goes like this: Parliament had passed a variety of taxation laws and then repealed most of them because of the activism of our forefathers, the first community organizers. The King left the Tea Tax in place as a petty warning to the colonists that he still reigned over them and had the power to tax them at his will. But that’s not the full story. The East India Company was failing and needed a bailout. Seriously. They persuaded Parliament that it was in England’s best interest to save the collapsing tea company. So Parliament refunded the normally imposed duties to the East India Company, dramatically decreasing the price of their tea, and gave them a monopoly in the colonies. Parliament kept the Tea Tax in place, but even with the tax, the new lower price of the East India Company’s tea was less than the smuggled tea from Holland. It was the King’s hope that the cheap price would entice the colonists to buy the tea, regardless of the Tea Tax.

However, our forefathers refused to accept this bribe of cheaper tea because it would have been an acknowledgement of Parliament’s right to impose taxes without giving the Colonies a voice. They refused. The governed revoked their consent and later determined, in a written constitution, the type of government they would embrace.

That is what our Tea Party movement is about. The American people are rising up against being governed in such a cynical, self-serving, and dishonest manner as we have witnessed. Everyday Americans have said, “Enough!” to this Congress and to this Administration…or any future politicians who hope to fill those seats of power. Everyday, hard-working Americans have found a common bond in a hunger for government truly based on the limits set out by our social contract, the U.S. Constitution. Too many of our elected officials have come to regard the public purse as their treasure trove from which to reward special interest groups and voting blocs in order to keep getting elected. Under those circumstances, who needs to read the bills?

Americans who are part of the Tea Party Movement do not agree on all issues and this is OK. The Movement is not about immigration, national security, KSM’s trial in New York City, and so on. Though these and other issues are vitally important and have extremely significant places in the realm of public debate, they are a subset of the original contract that we have with our government.

The goal of the Tea Party Movement is to free the American people, their livelihood, their property – physical and intellectual, their time, their wallets, and their families from a federal government that has, under both parties, grown to be a political phagocyte that sees individual liberty and freedom as so much debris in the body politic.

When we are free to earn a living, take care of our families, and be charitable in the manner of our choosing; when we are not regulated to the point of inaction and stagnation; when we are trusted to make our own decisions about the paths of our lives and about where to spend our money; when all of these things come to pass, it means that we will have elected representatives that finally realize that they work for us and so must listen and act responsively. When multi-millionaires like Nancy Pelosi can no longer tax us into oblivion to pay for private use of military transports for their grandchildren, and cannot use our money to pay for Johnny Walker whiskey and Courvoisier cognac, we will have succeeded.

Once we have achieved the goal of electing officials that represent all of the people and not one particular group over another group, i.e. public sector union members over non-unionized citizens, or specific race or ethnic groups over others, further issues will be easier to address. Once we have representatives that stop bribing each other with our money, stop giving kickbacks to friends, stop wasting our money on useless trips and redundancies, and stop taking our hard-earned dollars out for a night on the town, we won’t mind paying the taxes that the Founders knew would be necessary to fund a limited federal government.

This is why this movement is neither Republican or Democrat. These rules apply to all of them. This election cycle will bring out many politicians eager to use the momentum and enthusiasm of the Tea Party Movement to propel them into office. In some places in the country the candidates that Tea Party groups support may be Democrats, in other places they may Republican. I can say that here in Seattle the Democrats are so radically left that Tea Partiers will probably have to choose from those who run under the Republican banner. My state level representatives and senator are all avowed socialists, with one of them actually admitting to being a communist – and they are all Democrats. But there will be parts of the country where the more principled candidate will be a Democrat, and the Tea Partiers are not afraid to go there.

If a party or a candidate would like the support of the Tea Party Movement, they had better believe in our principles of fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government, and free markets. Once in office they must live up to these principles with their votes, and if they don’t, they will lose their job at the next election. It’s really quite simple.

Am I worried about the movement being “co-opted” by other causes and established political parties? No. The facts are that many citizens registered as Republicans and Democrats ARE Tea Partiers. Many others are true Independents.

Others are Libertarians. Those of us in the Movement are observant, smart, and pretty darned discerning.

We are learning better every day how to distinguish the candidates who, given the opportunity, will roll the Taxpayer like a thief in a dark alley from those who, like a few fine elected officials currently serving, embody and live the Tea Party principles.

***

What is to be made of this? Did they just wear her out? She, and her family, have been mercilessly subjected to so many attacks, its hard to keep track. Can you imagine if the Chairman of the Hussein Administration had been subject to the scrutiny with which this woman has had to deal? We might actually know where he was born, the country of issue of the passport which he used to gain entry to POK-eee-ston, aka Pakistan, in the early 1980′s, from whom he bought his cocaine, how much he had to pay Bill Ayers to write ‘Dreams Of My Father’(which apparently included knocking up women and leaving fatherless children on all continents – thanks a lot jack ass!!!), and how, with no evident scholarly accomplishments or school records, he gained access to and financed his attendance at, the so-called ‘elite Ivy League universities’, bastions of Marxism that they are, from whose dank halls all Presidential candidates apparently must emerge. But no, we do however know every detail of the Palin family’s. The volumes of vile, factless innuendo put forth by various media outlets has been overwhelming and nothing but disgusting. It would be enough to wear most people out, but I don’t believe that to be the case with Sarah Palin.
First of all, why has she been so savagely and continuously attacked even after the election? Because the Marxists in power(Democrats), fear her the more than any other potential Republican Presidential candidate in 2012. She is an affront to the Marxists on many levels. She’s ascended to prominence with no help or assistance from anyone. She gave birth to a mentally handicapped child rather than aborting it, as they’d prefer. She has accomplished more in two years in the Alaskan Governorship than Chairman Hussein has in his entire life – unless you count singlehandedly destroying the American economy in 5 months as an accomplishment. The bottom line is, she is the embodiment of everything the Marxist/Democrats hate, successful, independent, self-made, confident, and perhaps most of all, one of us.
When Palin gave her resignation speech, I was taken with how she spoke for 20 minutes or better from a page of notes. When Obeyme is forced to speak without a tele-prompter, he sounds annoyed and arrogant – that’s when he can get a complete coherent sentence out of his mouth. Palin is a much more gifted extemporaneous speaker than Obama – that’s because she’s not attempting to deceive with her words as he is. She has the advantage of being able to speak what she truly believes – if Obama ever did that, the pitchforks and torches would come out.
So, what is she up to? I believe that she sees an opportunity to side step the onslaught from the left in Alaska via every form of baseless ethics complaint one can imagine and take the battle south to the lower 48. She’s made a choice to step forever onto the national stage. The notion that she has stepped aside from politics for good makes no sense. There’s nothing novel in my take on this vs. many other commentators on this subject, however, I think Sarah is going for the throat. She strikes me as someone who takes shit from no one and she’s about to let everyone know. Unconstrained from the bindings of the McCain campaign, we will see the real Sarah Palin and people will love her.
She has a very Reaganesque quality about her. It comes through when she speaks – you can tell that she believes what she’s saying. That’s what people loved about Reagan, they knew that he truly believed his message. No one can listen to Obeyme and say that he truly believes what he’s saying. How many times have even his close associates said ‘Well, he’s just saying what he needs to say’. This is what scares the left about Sarah Palin more than anything else, they remember that Reagan sent their Marxist philosophy into the basement for 20 years like a bunch of rats running for cover when the lights are turned on. Now, after enduring their assaults, she’s pulled and Obi-Wan-Kenobi on them become more powerful than they could ever imagine.
When she announces her candidacy for President, I for one will support her with every available means. May God bless Sarah Palin.

I am posting here a letter which Right Wing Rocker posted. I have no idea if this is from an actual teacher, I only know that I agree with the sentiments. Everyone should read it.

April 17, 2009
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington , DC 20500

Mr. Obama:

I have had it with you and your administration, sir. Your conduct on your recent trip overseas has convinced me that you are not an adequate representative of the United States of America collectively or of me personally..

You are so obsessed with appeasing the Europeans and the Muslim world that you have abdicated the responsibilities of the President of the United States of America. You are responsible to the citizens of the United States. You are not responsible to the peoples of any other country on earth.

I personally resent that you go around the world apologizing for the United States telling Europeans that we are arrogant and do not care about their status in the world. Sir, what do you think the First World War and the Second World War were all about if not the consideration of the peoples of Europe ? Are you brain dead? What do you think the Marshall Plan was all about? Do you not understand or know the history of the 20th century?

Where do you get off telling a Muslim country that the United States does not consider itself a Christian country? Have you not read the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution of the United States? This country was founded on Judeo-Christian ethics and the principles governing this country, at least until you came along, come directly from this heritage. Do you not understand this?

Your bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia is an affront to all Americans. Our President does not bow down to anyone, let alone the king of Saudi Arabia . You didn’t show Great Britain , our best and one of our oldest allies, the respect they deserve yet you bow down to the king of Saudi Arabia .. How dare you, sir! How dare you!

You can’t find the time to visit the graves of our greatest generation because you don’t want to offend the Germans but make time to visit a mosque in Turkey .. You offended our dead and every veteran when you give the Germans more respect than the people who saved the German people from themselves. What’s the matter with you?

I am convinced that you and the members of your administration have the historical and intellectual depth of a mud puddle and should be ashamed of yourselves, all of you.

You are so self-righteously offended by the big bankers and the American automobile manufacturers yet do nothing about the real thieves in this situation, Mr. Dodd, Mr. Frank, Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelic, the Fannie Mae bonuses, and the Freddie Mac bonuses. What do you intend to do about them? Anything? I seriously doubt it.

What about the U.S. House members passing out $9.1 million in bonuses to their staff members – on top of the $2.5=2 0million in automatic pay raises that lawmakers gave themselves? I understand the average House aide got a 17% bonus. I took a 5% cut in my pay to save jobs with my employer. You haven’t said anything about that. Who authorized that? I surely didn’t!

Executives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be receiving $210 million in bonuses over an eighteen-month period, that’s $45 million more than the AIG bonuses. In fact, Fannie and Freddie executives have already been awarded $51 million – not a bad take.. Who authorized that and why haven’t you expressed your outrage at this group who are largely responsible for the economic mess we have right now.

I resent that you take me and my fellow citizens as brain-dead and not caring about what you idiots do. We are watching what you are doing and we are getting increasingly fed up with all of you.

I also want you to know that I personally find just about everything you do and say to be offensive to every one of my sensibilities. I promise you that I will work tirelessly to see that you do not get a chance to spend two terms destroying my beautiful country.

Sincerely,
Every real American

I found this beautifully told story of Francis Scott Key and the night which inspired him to write our beloved anthem. There are few things which touch the heart like this song and the story behind it. I have only heard parts of it in the past. My thanks to The Snooper Report for posting this.

Today is Memorial Day. A day set aside for remembering those who have paid such a price for our freedom. So many have left behind spouses, children, parents to fight our country’s battles. Here I post the famous letter from Abraham Lincoln to Mrs. Bixby who was believed to be the mother of 5 sons killed in the civil war. To all those who have lost a loved one in battle I re-print this in the hopes that you will find some solace in the gratitude which is expressed so beautifully herein:

To Mrs. Bixby, Boston, Mass.

Dear Madam,

I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours very sincerely and respectfully,

A. Lincoln

Thank you to our fallen and to their families. We think of you today and hold you in our national heart.
