In the wake of the recent Cinqo De Mayo controversies, I have to question whether I’m living in America, or some bizarro parallel universe version thereof. I’m not going to go on about how this isn’t really even a holiday in Mexico, or the ridiculous notion that it should be celebrated in the U.S.. However, with the ‘flag shirt’ high schoolers and other incidents surrounding this so-called, media and corporate contrived tripe of a holiday worthy of nationwide celebration, it brings to light an issue of much larger significance. Namely, the notion that hyphenated citizenry has any place in our beloved Republic.
America has been built, in large part, by immigrants. Legal immigrants, people who abandoned all foreign allegiance for the privilege to call themselves Americans- not Irish-Americans, German-Americans, or African-Americans, just Americans. They left their native cultures and customs so they could be individuals, and live freely to the fullest extent of their abilities. To be an American is not to be any part of a group other than a group of free people exercising their God given rights of self-determination, as stated in the Declaration of Independence.
Although I don’t subscribe to the wearing of the American Flag as clothing, other than as a part of a military or civil servant uniform, the notion that the American Flag in and of itself is somehow an abhorrent display to some percentage of the population on any day of the year leads me to one question. Who the hell are these people and what are they doing here?
My take is that anyone who identifies themselves as a fill-in-the-blank-American, is not an American at all. You cannot be an American if you place your allegiance first with another country. The media perpetuates this nonsense constantly. By calling Chairman Obeyme the first African-American President(oh, I’m sorry was that Bill Clinton?), they debase him from America. America cannot have an African-American President or any other hyphenated variety, we either have an African President, which is illegal according to the Constitution, or an American President. Not both.
This may seem like a semantic word play, but take a look at Europe right now. The European Union, an unrealistic product of wishful thinking on the part of the ruling elite, is coming apart at the seems. But why? It made so much sense. Join the countries of Europe together in an economic and eventual political alliance to counter balance the United States. So why isn’t it working?
Let’s see, no common language, a history of warring on one another for centuries, and distinctly different values from country to country. What could go wrong? Contrast this with America’s formation, thirteen colonies (basically separate nation states as exist in Europe), a common language, a common disdain for the aristocracies of Europe, and a common belief in God and the God given rights of man.
What about slavery( a system established by Europeans in the colonies for their economic gain) you say? America’s penance for slavery was paid in full, in the blood of it’s sons and daughters during The Civil War. The Founders knew this issue would have to be resolved and it was, at great cost.
So, there are no hyphenated Americans, you are either an American or you may classify yourself as other than American – and if you opt for the latter, leave after your visit.
I truly believe that their are Americans all over the world that have never stepped foot into this country but yearn for the individual freedom and economic and religious liberty that we are SUPPOSED to value. I welcome these people into our country – legally, come here, prosper, and be my neighbor.
Americanism is a belief and state of mind more so than a birth right- and within it there is no room for hyphens.

Arizona’s new law Senate Bill 1070 was signed into law this week by AZ Governor Jan Brewer. May Day protests are planned across the country. Now comes the fun part. California, particularly the cities of San Francisco, and San Diego are calling for boycotts of Arizona. Does no one see this as ironic? California a state which is coming apart at the seams financially, wants to boycott? I have to laugh! I haven’t found the numbers on California’s budget as it applies to illegal aliens. However there is a lot of information to be found at FAIR. I don’t think it actually takes an accounting degree to figure out that when you have a large population which does not contribute to the income tax base and yet requires services, you will come up short. This may or may not be the biggest drain on California’s budget, but the fact is, it doesn’t help. If the number is even five billion a year, isn’t that too much for a state in financial crisis?
So Arizona has passed an enforcement law. Arizona is trying to protect it’s citizens not only from crime (which by definition an ILLEGAL ALIEN brings with him) but also from the fiscal impact of services, incarceration, education etc. which comes along with illegal immigration. So California, how about you just shut up. After all, it will be the rest of the country that bails you out when you can no longer function independently. I, as part of the rest of the country don’t appreciate it. When you get your act together then maybe the rest of the country will give you an ear. As for me, I am heading to Arizona in two weeks. I’ll probably spend some of my money there, and on the way home I will not pass through California. ***And by the way Mexico, you can shove your warnings about people being mistreated by our police. If you care so much about your people, maybe you should clean up your own mess so your people would want to stay in their own country! And that goes to all countries who want to protest how the U.S. handles illegal immigration!

You’ve been gone from home for a week visiting relatives, eating Aunt Nellie’s tuna and potato chip casserole, jello molds, and whatnot, and you can’t wait to grab a beer and relax on the couch. You open the door and a wave of water rushes over your feet. While you were gone, the hot water line on your washing machine burst and there’s five inches of water on the floor and it’s gushing out of the door. So much for the beer.

What’s the first thing you do? Get the mop and start soaking it up? Grab a bucket and start bailing out the living room? Grab your ShamWows that soak up twenty times their volume (you really are throwing your money away on those paper towels, by the way…)?

I don’t know about you, but the first thing I’m going to do is shut off the water -and probably grab a beer anyway.

This is the situation with our Southern border. At present, there is a stream of illegal aliens pouring in, flooding our South Western states with drugs, diseases, pregnancies, and violence. The full impact of this invasion is staggering and unprecedented and will take decades to clean up – once we ‘shut off the water’, that is.

This simple analogy is why I’ve never bought into the arguments for ‘comprehensive immigration reform’. None of these types of solutions make a commitment shut of the flow of the illegals. Most of them are derived from the myth that ‘We can’t deport twenty million illegal aliens.’ So, in other words, the government is telling you that you’ll have to get used to trudging around in the water in your home, because they have no plans on cleaning up the mess. Amnesty.

Here are the straw men that have been presented to the public to date by both Republicans and Democrats – most notably Bush and McCain, mainly because I expect the Democrats to say stupid stuff- and my response to them…

We can’t close the border- This is such a blatant, ridiculous lie as to be unbelievable that any would ever accept it as fact. It’s not even worth expounding on beyond that. Remember, in most cases ‘can’t’ means ‘won’t’. The truth of the matter is that they, the government, won’t close the border.

We can’t deport 20 million illegal aliens. This one has rolled off of the tongues of too many politicians to count. If they ‘know’ that they ‘can’t’ deport 20 million illegal aliens, then they must also know how many they can deport. Is that a million, perhaps 5 million? Whatever the actual number they can deport, I think it would represent a good start, when do we get started? The bottom line is that they don’t ‘know’ that they can’t deport 20million. What they know is that they ‘won’t’ deport 20 million.

Illegals are here to do the jobs that Americans won’t do- This was one of the most offensive statements ever uttered by a U.S. President. When it comes to the word won’t, it’s ok to apply it to the work ethic of Americans. I would contend that the only job that an American won’t do is one that he can’t afford to do. Subsidized farming drive prices and wages down. Abusive government regulation and taxes make it very prohibitive for small business to hire permanent employees and expand. The government creates this environment and ultimately, the demand for illegal workers and their entry to the country. Also, the notion that the problem needs to be addressed at the employers end is a complete shirking of responsibility by the government. It is the government’s duty to defend the borders. Ideally, there should not be any illegals in the country to hire. When some states issuing driver’s licenses to illegals, it makes it very difficult for an employer to verify whether someone is legit or not. This is the government’s responsibility, not small business.

Illegals add more to the economy than they consume- This is just not true. Much of the income that is generated by the illegals that actually work jobs gets sent back to Mexico. Dollars used in the U.S. by illegal immigrants is the second largest source of Mexican GDP, next to oil. The impact on healthcare infrastructure is driving hospitals in border towns into bankruptcy, not to mention the State of California.

Future Democratic Voters!

There are more examples, but that’s enough to make my point. The government keeps rolling out ‘reason’ after ‘reason’ that they ‘can’t’ take action. The question is why? When you think about it, if the Democrats in Congress ever wanted a reason to impeach President Bush, they could have done it for not enforcing the border laws that he was sworn to uphold. Given how vitriolic as Congress was towards President Bush, that can only mean that the Congress did not want the laws enforced either. Why would that be?

Well, the simple answer is that these illegals represent post-amnesty voters to Democrats and some border state Republicans. I believe however, that the, real reason probably has more to do with delaying the implosion of Social Security.

With birthrates down in the U.S. over the last 40 years, the worlds biggest ponzi scheme is likely to come apart sooner, rather than later. Adding an additional 20 million, and probably closer to 30 million when its all said and done, taxpayers to the tax roles en masse, probably has a certain appeal to our elected plantation masters. This will give them more time to get out of town sans the rail, tar, and feathers- remember, they all have fat government pensions and are not subject to Social Security taxes or its’ paltry payments.

Now, we could probably tail off into a debate over the merits of Social Security, and how ‘America’s Greatest Generation’ saw fit to bridle their descendants into permanent servitude, entitling themselves to a percentage of their children’s and grand children’s wages indefinitely, but I’ll attempt to stay on point.

Here’s the bottom line. There is no political will within the Federal Government to close the border, shut the water off, and stop the flood. This is an issue that will require constant pressure on the elected Olympians in order to get them to take action. My experience on this issue is that they want to avoid it like the plague, because any root cause analysis of the problem ultimately leads to the coming Social Security implosion.

I will not accept the arguments made for doing nothing or for amnesty, and I will continue to write my Congressional delegation on this subject, as frustrating as this has proven to be. If we sit back and do nothing about this, the country in which we were raised will cease to exist. If you agree with me that there is little difference between this, ‘most complicated issue of our time’, and a flood in your laundry room, take the 5 minutes out of your day and contact your Congressional delegation and tell them they need to shut off the water!
