‘Give’ Act Passes Senate Cloture Vote

I remind you of this quote.

“It only stands to reason that where there’s sacrifice, there’s someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there’s service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master.” – Ayn Rand

When I heard this had passed the House and was being voted on in the Senate, I immediately fired off a couple of e-mails to my Senators.  Basically I told the that my children would be forced into servitude over my dead body.  For convenience, I’m posting the Glenn Beck/Michelle Malkin discussion where they cover some of the provisions, but believe me, there’s a lot more to this.  Read about it here.

  1. I have e-mailed mine as well. However I am sure I will receive the same form mail which I received for the bailout back in the fall. They don’t care what I think because I disagree and therefore my opinion is not important.

  2. EAP,
Remember, its not the response, or lack thereof, that matters. Its the fact that you write. When they receive e-mails and phone calls, they always figure that for every person that writes them, there is likely another thousand that feel the same way. They watch these trends closely because they fear the electorate and our ability to send them back to the real world- for as long as that lasts.

  3. No, it’s hopeless. It doesn’t matter if they get sent back in the next election. They still get paid.

  4. Sorry, just feeling a bit frustrated. I actually do e-mail them and on occasion I’ll call. I do know it is important. It is frustrating when things are being rushed through so quickly, I don’t even think they have time to read my mail or log my call before these things are voted on!

  5. I just read that bill, and can’t find anywhere where it talks about mandatory service for anyone. Did I miss something?

  6. They pulled it out prior to the cloture vote. It is expected that an attempt will be made to add it back in. It was in the original house bill.

  7. Do you have a link or something where I can find the original? I’d like to see it!

  8. Read HR1388 here – search on section 6104 on the establishment of the commission to make recommendations to Congress on…

    (5) The effect on the Nation, on those who serve, and on the families of those who serve, if all individuals in the United States were expected to perform national service or were required to perform a certain amount of national service.
    (6) Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.
