State Of Connecticut In Hostile Takeover Of Catholic Church
By omb on Mar 11, 2009 in Constitution
I’m not kidding. You can read the proposed bill here. I saw something about this on Glenn Beck’s show and found a few blog references on it. Apparently, law makers in Connecticut believe themselves to have sufficient authority to violate the 1st Amendment and take control of the finances of all Catholic Diocese within their borders. They backpedaled on this at the last minute and did not introduce the bill as scheduled, but this is still a gross violation of the Constitution.
Some are saying that this is an attempt on the part of the State to silence the Church on issues such as same sex marriage. This is so arrogant that I’m at a loss for words.

I don’t really see anything out of the norm there as far as religious corporations go. What did Beck see wrong with this?

oh yep, i might see now.. is it the board of directors (laymen, non-clergy) that the bill creates?
Why does the bill just call out the Roman Catholic church and not other religions?

Longshanks, That is how I understood it. Just the Catholic Church and everything that was underlined was new.
