Flood! Flood! Grab The ShamWows!

You're throwing your money away!

You're throwing your money away!

You’ve been gone from home for a week visiting relatives, eating Aunt Nellie’s tuna and potato chip casserole, jello molds, and whatnot, and you can’t wait to grab a beer and relax on the couch.  You open the door and a wave of water rushes over your feet.  While you were gone, the hot water line on your washing machine burst and there’s five inches of water on the floor and it’s gushing out of the door.  So much for the beer.

What’s the first thing you do?   Get the mop and start soaking it up?  Grab a bucket and start bailing out the living room?  Grab your ShamWows that soak up twenty times their volume (you really are throwing your money away on those paper towels, by the way…)?

I don’t know about you, but the first thing I’m going to do is shut off the water -and probably grab a beer anyway.

This is the situation with our Southern border.  At present, there is a stream of illegal aliens pouring in, flooding our South Western states with drugs, diseases, pregnancies, and violence.  The full impact of this invasion is staggering and unprecedented and will take decades to clean up – once we ‘shut off the water’, that is.

This simple analogy is why I’ve never bought into the arguments for ‘comprehensive immigration reform’.  None of these types of solutions make a commitment shut of the flow of the illegals.  Most of them are derived from the myth that ‘We can’t deport twenty million illegal aliens.’  So, in other words, the government is telling you that you’ll have to get used to trudging around in the water in your home, because they have no plans on cleaning up the mess.  Amnesty.

Here are  the straw men that have been presented to the public to date by both Republicans and Democrats – most notably Bush and McCain, mainly because I expect the Democrats to say stupid stuff- and my response to them…

We can’t close the border-  This is such a blatant, ridiculous lie as to be unbelievable that any would ever accept it as fact.  It’s not even worth expounding on beyond that.  Remember,  in most cases ‘can’t’ means ‘won’t’.  The truth of the matter is that they, the government, won’t close the border.

We can’t deport 20 million illegal aliens.  This one has rolled off of the tongues of too many politicians to count.  If they ‘know’ that they ‘can’t’ deport 20 million illegal aliens, then they must also know how many they can deport.  Is that a million, perhaps 5 million?  Whatever the actual number they can deport, I think it would represent a good start, when do we get started?  The bottom line is that they don’t ‘know’ that they can’t deport 20million.  What they know is that they ‘won’t’ deport 20 million.

Illegals are here to do the jobs that Americans won’t do- This was one of the most offensive statements ever uttered by a U.S. President.  When it comes to the word won’t, it’s ok to apply it to the work ethic of Americans.  I would contend that the only job that an American won’t do is one that he can’t afford to do.  Subsidized farming drive prices and wages down.  Abusive government regulation and taxes make it very prohibitive for small business to hire permanent employees and expand.  The government creates this environment and ultimately, the demand for illegal workers and their entry to the country.  Also, the notion that the problem needs to be addressed at the employers end is a complete shirking of responsibility by the government.  It is the government’s duty to defend the borders.  Ideally, there should not be any illegals in the country to hire.  When some states issuing driver’s licenses to illegals, it makes it very difficult for an employer to verify whether someone is legit or not.  This is the government’s responsibility, not small business.

Illegals add more to the economy than they consume-  This is just not true.  Much of the income that is generated by the illegals that actually work jobs gets sent back to Mexico.  Dollars used in the U.S. by illegal immigrants is the second largest source of Mexican GDP, next to oil.  The impact on healthcare infrastructure is driving hospitals in border towns into bankruptcy, not to mention the State of California.

Future Democratic Voters!

Future Democratic Voters!

There are more examples, but that’s enough to make my point.  The government keeps rolling out ‘reason’ after ‘reason’ that they ‘can’t’ take action.  The question is why?  When you think about it, if the Democrats in Congress ever wanted a reason to impeach President Bush, they could have done it for not enforcing the border laws that he was sworn to uphold.  Given how vitriolic as Congress was towards President Bush, that can only mean that the Congress did not want the laws enforced either.  Why would that be?

Well, the simple answer is that these illegals represent post-amnesty voters to Democrats and some border state Republicans.  I believe however, that the, real reason probably has more to do with delaying the implosion of Social Security.

With birthrates down in the U.S. over the last 40 years, the worlds biggest ponzi scheme is likely to come apart sooner, rather than later.  Adding an additional 20 million, and probably closer to 30 million when its all said and done, taxpayers to the tax roles en masse, probably has a certain appeal to our elected plantation masters.  This will give them more time to get out of town sans the rail, tar, and feathers- remember, they all have fat government pensions and are not subject to Social Security taxes or its’ paltry payments.

Now, we could probably tail off into a debate over the merits of Social Security, and how ‘America’s Greatest Generation’ saw fit to bridle their descendants into permanent servitude, entitling themselves to a percentage of their children’s and grand children’s wages indefinitely, but I’ll attempt to stay on point.

Here’s the bottom line.  There is no political will within the Federal Government to close the border, shut the water off, and stop the flood.  This is an issue that will require constant pressure on the elected Olympians in order to get them to take action.  My experience on this issue is that they want to avoid it like the plague, because any root cause analysis of the problem ultimately leads to the coming Social Security implosion.

I will not accept the arguments made for doing nothing or for amnesty, and I will continue to write my Congressional delegation on this subject, as frustrating as this has proven to be.  If we sit back and do nothing about this, the country in which we were raised will cease to exist.  If you agree with me that there is little difference between this, ‘most complicated issue of our time’, and a flood in your laundry room, take the 5 minutes out of your day and contact your Congressional delegation and tell them they need to shut off the water!

  1. This gives a really good perspective of the illegal immigrant problem. The whole illegal immigration issue has been something that I was always shaky on but this has helped me solidify my views.

Thanks OMB! Keep up the good work!

  3. BBF,

Thanks for the vote of confidence, I’ll do my best. I honestly do believe this is a very simple issue with which to deal. There is obviously more at stake here than just people crossing the border and taking jobs otherwise they, our lawmakers and law enforcers, would deal with it.

  5. You’ve made a very valid point. When people say that they can’t do something, it usually means that they won’t. I’m pretty sure that politics is not the only arena this holds true for.

  7. Interestingly enough, one of the chants commonly heard throughout BamBam’s campaign was “yes we can!”. Translated into Spanish:
“Si Se Puede!”, does that ring a bell?

  8. Man I have to say that the Sham-wow guy creeps me out more in still photos than on TV. I feel like he is setting my soul aflame with his gaze. Oddly though I want to buy a slap-chop now.

  9. Yes, I’ve found it best to avert my eyes from his direct gaze, lest he steal my soul.

  10. I like his head set…Why does he need that? He’s cleaning up messes and chopping vegetables. I’ll have the double Big Mac meal with super-sized fries, and a diet coke.

It sounds like some of the jobs that Obama is going to “create” need to be bus drivers in the southern border states. If there really are 20 million, it will take a long time, and many hours of driving, to get them back home.

  11. rm,
Vince is the man! He’d be great at parties – ‘Spill a drink? No problem. Need more chopped onions? He’s on it.’

The problem with those bus driver jobs that you mention is that under Obama, I believe the busses would be headed North instead of South.

  12. OMB-

Probably. By the next presidential election, illegals will probably have voting rights too. More votes for him.

  14. Colorado is currently voting on another wonder illegal benifit. WHats that…free health care? Nope this times is all about fair education.

As my daughter starts her junior year at CSU I often wonder why as a taxpaying person my dollors are once again being siverted to people that have not paid one dime into the sytem and yet get all the benefits.

Whats going on here? Tuition support for illegal alliens! Anyone coming to CSU from out of state pays $25,000/ year for tuition. Oh unless you happen to not pay taxes or even be from the good old USA. No if you sigh a waiver that says you will make every effort in the future to become a citizen you get the fantastic discounted IN State tuition rate of $6,000. WOW. Thats what a saving of $19,000!!!

Whats even better is that I cannot get any help from the government until I pay the first $25,000 of tutition even though I have been layed off for 9 months and living on money I take out of my IRA. Oh by the way I get a 10% penalty for early withdrawal on top of the normal taxes I guess because I am not following the governments idea of how I need to save money.

Needless to say I feel great about people who never pay taxes taking mine and using them to better their childrens life while I get screwed over and over again.

This kind of thing is gettting worse and worse. Unless the brakes get put on stuff like this…..look out!

  15. tj,
That’s really just infuriating. California is following a similar path and what gets me is that you’ll have to pay for that too once they start defaulting. Why should there be and State fiscal discipline if they can count on the Federal tax payers in the other 49 states to pay for it. You almost can’t blame the states since they get burdened with unfunded mandates from the Feds. This, again, is related to the 17th amendment stuff posted earlier. In the end, you are the forgotten man.
Of course, you’ll get a bunch of folks who’ll say – ‘Well, they’re here, they pay some taxes, why wouldn’t you want them educated?” This, of course, is the sort of soppy headed good intentions crap that garners votes, but has no logical basis. Not surprising, because its all about feelings these days. My argument, of course, is that a bus ticket to the border is cheaper than a college education. I’m just ‘mean’, I guess.
