Welcome to The Liberty Bunker!

“You have rights antecedent to all earthly governments: rights that cannot be repealed or restrained by human laws; rights derived from the Great Legislator of the universe.” - John Adams
Believe it? I do. This single sentence captures the motivations and ideals behind Great American Experiment perhaps as well any other. It’s easy to understand, and it’s very straightforward. Our rights are just that, our rights. They are not granted to us by any government, bill of rights, or any other construct of man. They come from God, The Creator, The Prime Mover of the universe – whatever name you want to use, you get the idea. Hence, they cannot be taken from you by anyone other than He from whence they came.
They can, however, be surrendered…
Be it through ignorance, laziness, or some other experience derived apathy, it would seem a that a good number of our citizens are well on the path to a complete capitulation of their liberties to the state. Others may question some of the actions of our seemingly ever more and more benevolent government, but few will raise a voice in opposition.
To be clear, the word ‘opposition’ to some, may conjure visions of pitchforks and torches, but it’s far less dramatic than that. In normal conversation, many otherwise intelligent, knowledgeable people will not defend their liberties against prevailing conventional wisdom. They nod in agreement as their co-workers and friends speak of, for instance, the crisis of Global Warming and how ‘We have to do our part to save the planet.’ It’s just so much easier to let the straw man stand.
So what’s wrong with this, OMB? How can my liberty possibly be eroded by saving the planet? Well, not to get off topic, the planet just is – by that I mean we can no more destroy it, or the life upon it that exists, than we can create it – unless you’re a god, which I would contend that most leftists believe they are, but that’s a topic for another post. The problem is that ‘doing something’ typically means a decision will be taken out of your hands and made for you by someone ‘far more competent’ to make it than you, i.e. a government bureaucrat – oh, and by the way, you’re going to have to pay him to make that decision for you.
Still don’t see how this is an infringes on your liberty? Sure, maybe you can’t decide what type medical treatment to have and you have to pay a little in carbon tax to the U.N., but you still have it pretty good, right? Besides that Polar bear was floating away on the ice… Break away from American Idol for a few minutes and read a little on the down fall of the early republics – none of them lasted for more than a few hundred years. It’s all there, it’s all happened before – it’s human nature. Liberty is nearly always surrendered a little bit at a time, always under the guise of crisis and mass fear.
There will always be another faceless group – “The _____” (fill in the blank), victimized by the existence of free men making decisions of their own free will, and magnanimously represented by the agent of some tyrannical end, seeking to exact a small amount of your liberty, until your liberty is no more. The eventual end of this constant onslaught is a feudal society with the very rich elites and the very poor. Most of recorded history exists under this type of rule – republics are the exception.
Our charge then, in the minds of the founders of this Nation it would seem, is to take responsibility for all decisions in our lives, and the associated consequences. These rights were not given to you to be relinquished to another man, or construct thereof, to do so has to be an affront to The Creator – if you buy in to this at all – and that can’t be good, right?
Edmund Burke, who is considered by many to be the father of modern conservative philosophy, said something to the effect that the continuance of free society required a contract between the living, the dead, and those yet to be born, and that we must never turn our back on those that came before us. We clearly have a responsibility to preserve for future generations, that which was granted us through the sacrifices of our forefathers.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.” Sam Adams
In other words, get off your ass and fight for what is yours, don’t lay down for these Olympian impostors. Fight them at every turn- it’s your duty to all who sacrificed before you so that you could enjoy that Super Bowl on the sixty inch plasma screen, and who knows – maybe you’ll actually feel alive for a change?
Enough for now!

There are so many conservative current events blogs that do a really good job of highlighting the daily occurrences of the federal government. My intent is not to duplicate what they do. I may get ideas for posts from their blogs, for which will be duly credited, but I don’t see any point in creating a duplicate of their good work. My commitment to all who read this blog is to deliver pertinent, opinionated content on events, both past and current, appropriate to the theme of the site. Please visit the about page before commenting. There will be other contributors as well once we get things off the ground here. The bottom line is that there is way too much going on in the country for me, or anyone else of similar mind to remain silent. So, this blog. Have fun, and close the door on your way out!

How relevant to current events. The “silent encroachment” of our rights is now at a dull roar. I look forward to your posts OMB-

Very very refreshing to read. It feels were leaving in a world where being a so called ‘progressive’ is trendy. However, the progress these progressives drive for is simply a move to micro manage society. The all holy left is power hungry and wants to make every aspect of life perfect. Though the intent seems good, it ultimately sacrifices individual freedom and spits on personal responsibility if favor of a big brother state. So true how the small liberties are taking but it erodes the big picture. If only people would open there eyes and see.

Believe it or not, there are still people that cherish the Liberties that our Founding Fathers of our great nation intended for us. That would be the United States of America, in case you thought I was talking about somewhere else. I’m heading into the bunker for some education. Thank you and the door is closed!

BBF, first off, thanks for coming into the bunker. I agree with your sentiments, many of the lefts initiatives are well intentioned, but antithetical to human nature. One only need drive though Gary, IN, Detroit, MI, or any of countless others in order to see the scorched earth left behind by their best intentions.

Hey! Look what I found! And the door is wide open. Dull roar? Hell, that screeching can’t be just from leftover jet-engines.
WHAM! Door is shut behind me, and I’m ready to rock–got my shades on too, so show me some scorched earth OMB.
